Another random item I found today. apachefriends.org basically provides a baseline install of Apache, MySQL, and PHP that can be installed/run from a folder. I just copied the whole thing onto my JumpDrive and ran it without any problems. Cool!
Basically what this means is that I can carry around with me a rough development environment. Plug it into any USB port and start going.
As usual instead of working hard like I should be tto take care of more pressing issues, the Internet called to me and said, “…Surf me….”
So I couldn’t help it and browsed around for a little bit. I’m glad I did because, I found Laszlo Systems, Inc.. In the 10 seconds I spent checking it out it would appear to be a platform with a scripting language that can be used to code flash based content. In other words, 1) code stuff like HTML 2) generate Flash content as a result. Very interesting…..
I think a sub result of their endeavors is a site called Blogbox.com. Which has some cool little Flash ‘applets’ (if its kosher to use that term) that one can include on their site. The Photoblox is something that I’m looking at with interest in particular.
This past weekend the family and I made our way to Goshen College. We had a good time seeing some friends that we hadn’t in a while. Saturday was a full day, and we got a lot of things ‘done.’ But by the end of the day I was beat. Sunday was no different. I had to lead the church service last night and ended up falling asleep out in the entryway just to get caught up. I had some weird dreams while I was sleeping, I hope I wasn’t making a spectacle of myself in the process.
The boy out performed himself as usual the whole weekend. I just can’t stop saying good things about the little bugger. He amazes his mom and me on a continuing basis with his good attitude. Someone told me yesterday that this means when Angie and I get around to having another kid at somepoint that the second one will be the exact opposite. …. I REALLY hope that won’t be the case.
So I mentioned previously that I was trying to get a powerbook up and running with OS X.3 so that I could do a little testing with web pages in alternate browsers. Once it starts it seems to run fine, however, clues point to problems with the power management unit. A friend suggested this might be the case, a little googling and I would tend to concurr. Spare parts could be purchased off of ebay, but since he has some old iMacs lying around I may just grab one of those instead.
Still I don’t know where I’d set the dumb thing up, hence the notion of the power book. In my stumbling around I came across PearPC which apparently lets one install OS X on a PC based machine through PowerPC emulation. Very interesting. Perhaps this is the space saver I’m looking for?
